25 Legendary Lines in Bollywood Cinema
By Editorial Team - BollySpice.com
29 Mar 2008

A movie is nothing without the lines spoken by the characters in the film. Delivered by brilliant actresses and actors, many of these lines become synonymous with certain characters and films. Certain lines just manage to become legendary, to the point where when you hear them you are immediately drawn back into the story of the film and the scene begins to replay in your mind. After much thought and much deliberation, we now present BollySpice's List of the '25 Legendary Lines of Bollywood Cinema'.

"Bade bade deshon mein, aisi choti choti baatein hoti rehti hai" - Spoken by Raj/Shahrukh Khan (Film: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, 1995)
"In large countries, little things like this keep happening."

A phrase that even non-Hindi speakers come to recognize because they have seen that wonderful film so many times. This line whenever heard or thought of will always take you back into the romance of Raj and Simran .

"Basanti, In kutto ke samne mat nachna" - Spoken by Veeru/Dharmendra (Film: Sholay, 1975)
"Basanti, don't dance in front of these dogs."

Veeru stands up for his ladylove time and time again in Sholay but this quote takes the cake!

"Babuji ne kaha Paro ko chod do, Paro ne kaha sharab ko chod do, tum keh rahi ho ghar chod do, ek din ayega jab woh kahe ga yeh duniya chod do.." - Spoken by Devdas/Shahrukh Khan (Film: Devdas, 2002)
"Father told me to leave Paro, Paro told me to stop drinking, and you are telling me to leave the house. There will be a day when He (God) will tell me to leave the world."

In the midst of a film that boasts of poetic beauty, this line has to be the most everlasting and touching of the entire film--one that stays with you until the closing credits roll and beyond.

"Pura naam: Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, baap ka naam: Dinanath Chauhan, maa ka naam: Suhasini Chauhan, gaon: Mandwa, umar: chhattis saal" - Spoken by Vijay/Amitabh Bachchan (Film: Agneepath, 1990)
"Full Name: Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, Father's Name: Dinanath Chauhan, Mother's Name: Suhasini Chauhan,Village: Mandwa, Age: 36 Years"

This is perhaps the most classic and legendary intro scene in Mr. Bachchan's career where he gives the famous dialogue of his biodata. Hearing this dialogue still sends chills down everyone's spines. It has become such a cult dialogue because of Mr. Bachchan's superb expressions and dialogue delivery all throughout the scene.

"Dosti ki hai--nibhani toh padegi" - Spoken by Prem/Salman Khan (Film: Maine Pyaar Kiya, 1989)
"I have committed to friendship, have to live up to it"

Salman Khan became an instant lover-boy as he uttered these words and crawled his way into the hearts of many.
