Akshay & Twinkle May Be Arrested
By Andrew Stephenson - BollySpice.com
8 Apr 2009

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna’s behaviour at the Lakme Fashion Show that was a minor scandal has escalated to the point where the police are confirming they may arrest them. “We’ll make the arrests soon and then take their statements,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Arvind Mahabdi yesterday.

The problem began when Akshay, who is the brand ambassador for Levi’s unbuttoned range, was walking the ramp for designer Tarun Tahiliani at the fashion show. He approached his wife Twinkle and asked her to unbutton his jeans. Many cheered but others were shocked and social activist Anil Nair filed a complaint. Akshay later apologised for the incident.

This is not the first time that India’s strict obscenity laws have created tension between Bollywood stars and traditionalists. Shilpa Shetty got into trouble when she was kissed in public by Richard Gere and Shriya Saran had problems when she wore a knee-length silver dress to an event celebrating the success of the film Sivaji.

Akshay’s year has gotten off to a bad start with both Chandni Chowk to China and 8 x 10 Tasveer under performing. However, his hopes are high with potentinal blockbusters Blue and Kambakht Ishq both due for release later this year.

We will keep you up to date on this developing story so watch this space for more!

Shame on this country and the stupid police force for wasting govt resources on such frivolous cases. Why isnt openly urinating on the streets not an obscene act. 99% of Indian men are guilty of this act. I am ashamed to be an indian citizen. Shame on these publicity hungry "social workers". Where are these parasites when women get raped and molested everyday in India. Blowing such silly incidents out of proportion makes this country look like a bunch of fools.

I don't understand what the big deal is. As much as India offers a wide array of culture and beauty, the people there display such a wide array of hypocrisy. India's obsenity laws have not prevented So what if Twinkle unbuttoned the front of her husband's jeans. It's not like he bared his "assets" in any way. It was clean fun. For those "shocked" people sitting in the audience, I suggest that you stop going to these functions as it is clear that you cannot handle it and functions like these have no room for you. And as for Shilpa Shetty and Shriya Saran, I cannot understand why a simple kiss and a knee-length dress can offend you, when there are temples there displaying the kamasutra positions. What are you going to do about those?
