BollySpice brings you romantic scenes,
So you can feel Ishq so true!

Yes readers, the day for lovers and friends to do a quick Salaam-e-Ishq is here: Valentine's Day! Itn the world of Bollywood, wonderful writers step into the shoes of the God of love, Cupid, to give us some of the most romantic scenes to make you smile, feel giddy, and at times, even shed a tear. Hindi movies, past and present, have given its viewers some of the most mushy-pyaar-filled moments to cherish. This Valentine's Day, the girls of BollySpice (since the boys are, oh, so unromantic) bring you some of our favorites guaranteed to make you feel the Pyaar Ke Side Effects!

Prathna Says Aww:

Aaja Nachle – Kunal Kapoor & Konkona Sen Sharma

The chemistry that both of these unconventional stars share is simply sizzling and at the same time, very unexpected. Aaja Nachle saw the two actors take on the personas of Laila and Majnu in their eternal love story, so naturally the film was filled with moments that make everyone in the audience take a moment to say "awwww...", but the scene that stands out for me is one of Imran and Anokhi and not of Laila and Majnu. The scene is set when the various political goons invade their rehearsal and brutally destroy the sets, and all the cast members step in, including Imran Pathan. Seeing Imran being brutally attacked by the goons, Anokhi jumps in without giving a second thought to how on Earth she would save her Imran. All that she knows is that she will, at any cost. In a flick of a second, you see Imran and Anokhi take on their in stage persona's of Laila and Majnu. For those who know Laila and Majnu's love story they'll instantly see that this scene is not different from when Majnu is being forced away and stoned on Laila's father's orders and Laila, without caring for her life, steps in to try and save her Majnu. You see this exact scene replicated in the play sequence in Aaja Nachle in the 'Koi Pathar Se Na Maare' song. The scene remains as the highlight of Anokhi and Imran's relationship, because it is the exact moment that their love is tested and, despite not having said those three words, the two hearts know that one simply cannot live without the other.

Socha Na Tha- Ayesha Takia & Abhay Deol

Never has their been such a romantic sequence that didn't require any words. Imtiaz Ali's directorial debut film Socha Na Tha had one of these rare moments where words are not needed to express anything, where one heart speaks to another. The sequence takes place when Viren sneaks into Aditi's room to finally, at last, set his heart in peace and confront his feelings, feelings that he simply cannot explain, and if they can be explained, will they ever be reciprocated by the person in question? The essence of the sequence, and what makes the romance so special, is the pure innocence of both the characters. Both totally naïve of what their hearts are ordering them to do, to go against everything they thought they felt strongly about. To top it all off, there is Sandesh Shandiliya's composition and Subra Sinha's lyrics, which both do the talking for the characters. The track 'Socha Na Tha' not only carries the same innocence as the two characters, but also the words say everything the audience needs to know about what is going on their minds. So, in conclusion, this scene required optimal chemistry and perfect background track in sync with the emotions. They always say that when your love is profound and deep enough there is no place for words and explanation: the eyes and the hearts do all the talking. There can never be a better depiction of this sensation on screen than this scene!

Mansi Loves Only One

There's a reason all of us twenty-somethings are so demanding from our relationships. That reason is tall, brown, and very handsome. He flinches his eyes and tilts his head, spreads his arms and smiles. And then he says it. When he does, he makes you forget homework, or the oven. He makes you hang-up on best friends over the phone, he makes you forget your mom's to-dos. And then you surrender and sigh. To the Casanova of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan. So, here are two of the most romantic scenes that every guy has to live up to, the two best characters in Bollywood history: Rahul and Raj. One who defies tradition, and the other relives it.

Dil Toh Pagal Hai- Shah Rukh Khan & Madhuri Dixit

This scene takes place right after Jimmy's wedding where Rahul, "Naam to suna hoga", gives a best man's speech about love, destiny and meant-to-be. Madhuri, Pooja/Maya, is engaged to Akshay Kumar -Ajay due to family obligations. Pooja loses her bangle and ends up at the tent to look for it, where Rahul holds her hand and embraces her with a passionate "Aur paas" or two. While watching this, you secretly wish that every proposal were proclaimed in silence. He truly shows that love speaks its own language, and you can't help but give in.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol

Raj has come to Simran's wedding not as the groom but to win her family so that he will be able to carry his bride away. He decides that he'd rather wed her with honor and permission than eloping with her into the dark woods of shame. Simran has taken the oath to not eat for an entire day until she is fed and given water by her soul-mate. She is sitting at the roof for Raj, hungry and anxious while he arrives late, giving her the impression that he's ignoring her. She fights with him for not caring about her only to realize he hadn't eaten without her either. They both smile at their meticulousness and the scene ends with the famous dialogue from the movie "Bade Bade desho me, aisi choti choti baate hoti rehti hai."

Reema Has SRK pyaar too:

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol

Considered by many to be one of the most romantic scenes ever, the electric Shah Rukh/Kajol jodi heats up the screen in this Kuch Kuch Hota Hai scene. Caught in a downpour, Rahul (SRK) pulls Anjali (Kajol) into a nearby gazebo to get away from the rain. As Anjali tries to shake out her hair, Rahul gets on one knee and asks for a dance. As the music starts, Rahul pulls Anjali into his arms, and what ensues is pure magic. You can feel the passion between both characters as they glide around the gazebo. And just as things start escalating, and you see Anjali finally succumbing to her feelings, she suddenly catches a glance of the engagement ring on her finger, immediately bringing her back down to earth. We only wish that ring had not gotten in the way!

Paheli - Shah Rukh Khan & Rani Mukherji

In a scene that uses more 'magical' methods, Lachchi (Rani) is getting ready to go to her parents house, and is in the courtyard, about to leave. The Ghost (SRK), looking down at her from the balcony of her room, doesn't want her go to without him, so he does everything he can to keep her there. With a snap of his fingers, he presents a floor full of rose petals at Lachchi's feet. As she tries to step away, the petals move with her, blocking her way out. She looks up at the Ghost, smiling and pleading with him to let her go. He refuses and continues to move the petals around her. Just as Lachchi agrees not to leave him behind, her father-in-law enters the room, causing all the petals to disappear as quickly as they appeared.

Roshni's Dil Goes Hmm:

Salaam Namaste- Saif Ali Khan & Preity Zinta

Saif Ali Khan pretty much spells romance. In Salaam Namaste, his female fans were overjoyed when he played a chef (and who doesn't love a man who can cook!), who wakes up bright and early to treat his girlfriend – played by Preity Zinta, to a scrumptious morning breakfast. The scene in question is simple and yet one can't help but gush over the romance it exhibits. The character of Saif waits as his live-in girlfriend Preity comes out of the shower in a towel. She is of course, shocked, and he as well, in awe of her shower-fresh beauty. As he slowly walks up to her and get close enough to smell her, he simply asks her, "Dus minute hai?" (Do you have ten minutes to spare?) She, a bit frightened, says she does, unsure of his intentions. He pulls her out to the deck where he has prepared the most extravagant breakfast possible.

The romance in this scene clearly explains that love is not about flowers, roses and expensive presents. In fact, Preity is clearly surprised that the normally lazy Saif actually wakes up early to cook for her before she leaves for work. Additionally, the couple realize the importance of spending time together, and if that means that they need to be up early, then so be it! No fancy poems, no scenic views, and certainly no elaborate gifts here. This love scene is all about the importance of thought behind romantic gestures. And after all, it's the thought that counts...right?

Luck By Chance- Farhan Akhtar & Konkona Sen Sharma

Farhan Akhtar is the latest heartthrob taking over Bollywood. He has a collaboration of elements adding to his sexy persona: his husky voice, immense talent, chiseled bod and the mysterious scar under his right eye. However, this new age cult, dependable actor also has a romantic flirty aspect to his personality which shone in his new flick Luck By Chance. An interesting scene which actually begins with actress Konkona Sen Sharma and Farhan sitting on a terrace under stars drinking beer on a torn couch. While discussing a common friend's theatrical performance, they come close and share a light delicate kiss – which we don't see but have to assume. The scene continues to show the couple cuddled on the small couch sleeping the night away with the moon shining down.

This unconventional scene is one which speaks volumes about how clichéd ways of romancing are outdated. The couple, perhaps a bit intoxicated, realize that they have feelings for each other and camp out on the terrace together. Perhaps what I most love about this scene is that there is no over the top sexual action seen between the couple, but you clearly can see that there is oodles of chemistry between the two. They play struggling actors who cannot afford to do anything too excessive, and choose to keep it real and simple. Additionally, I love the normality and sensitivity with which the scene has been executed. The scene teaches us that there ain't no love like a night under the stars!

Fariha's Saawariya

My most favorite romantic scene is the climax scene of Saawariya when Sakina and Raj are saying their goodbyes. Sakina is conflicted about going and Raj is making the smallest excuses for her to stay even a second longer. They didn't really say anything breathtaking, but the way both Sonam and Ranbir emoted and the way the scene was portrayed, it really made me feel their pain and Sakina's confusion. Every time I watch it, I still get choked up.

Myriam Looks Deep for Love

Fanaa– Aamir Khan and Kajol

Fanaa is mostly known for having brought together on screen (and as a couple) two of the all-time most wonderful Hindi actors, Kajol and Aamir Khan, in a tragic love story. Zooni met Rehan when she was still blind. She fell deeply in love with him, and from their short but passionate love came a child that Zooni named Rehan, in memory of her lost love (she thought he died in a terrorist attack). But several years later, after recovering her sight, a soldier fell at her door. In fact this man is Rehan, the love of her life, but she's still not aware of that.

It's during a night they spend together, singing old songs and dancing, that Zooni realised that the man in front of her, whose voice and behavior since he came disturbed her so much, was actually her love, Rehan. This scene is very strong, because Zooni, who can now see, has to use other senses, much deeper than sight, to recognize him. They're dancing together, she's in his arms, and while he sings she suddenly figures out why she's so disturbed by him. This is the moment Rehan chooses to confirm this feeling to her; it wasn't a delusion. Both the actors are sharing such a strong romance and most of the love scenes are so unconventional that it definitely makes Fanaa one of the most romantic movie of the past few years.

Guru – Vidya Balan and Madhavan

Guru is a wonderful movie, with fantastic actors who have all delivered amazing performances. But if there is always one thing that comes to my mind whenever I think about this movie, it has to be the touching chemistry that shared Vidya Balan and Madhavan on screen.

One moment in particular touched my heart: the scene when Madhavan proposed to Vidya. In the movie, the character played by Vidya Balan has multiple sclerosis and she is living in pain, her health getting worse by the day. A special friendship is growing between her and the character played by Madhavan, who plays a journalist in the movie.

The scene takes place on a seawall, under a torrential rain (first romantic ingredient). Meenu (Vidya) is enjoying the rain, wishing there were snow in Mumbai… when Madhavan unexpectedly proposed to her. She keeps talking random, pretending she hasn't heard anything. He asks again, and she starts listing all he reasons that could dissuade anyone to marry her (which turns out to be the reasons that dissuade her to get involved with him)…. He maintains his proposal, wishing to share her brief remaining time, and he is waiting for an answer. She starts crying and he brutally, but passionately, kisses her, and this cannot leave any place for doubt, and even less for rejection.

On this sweet but melancholic note, let me quote our great Mother Theresa who once said "I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love"…

Stacey Sighs over:

Chori Chori- Ajay Devgan & Rani Mukherji

It is said that imitation is the highest form of flattery, and sometimes Bollywood has taken that to heart and made their versions of some of Hollywood's romantic films. One of the best remakes in my opinion is based on the film Housesitter, that originally starred Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. A great film, but even better is the Bollywood version Chori Chori starring Ajay Devgan as Ranbir and Rani Mukherji as Khushi. It is not only one of my favorite movies, it also has one of the best and most romantic scenes is all of filmdom.

Khushi and Ranbir have been pretending to be engaged for several reasons, and of course as these things go they fall in love. However, again as these things go, they have had a fight, neither knows the other is in love, and they are standing at the altar ready to exchange the garlands. Khushi asks that he not make her keep on pretending and Ajay (sigh) says one of the most (sigh) romantic lines in the history of romantic lines: Main tumhari liye aaj apne sari khushi laaya hoon aur is badle mein mujhe apne sare dukh de do" (I have bought all my joy and happiness for you and in exchange simply give me all your pain). Then he says, "Will you marry me?" I cry every time and fall in love with him right along with Khushi! Siggh!

Saathiya- Vivek Oberoi & Rani Mukherji

Saathiya, starring the hunkie Vivek Oberoi and the gorgeous Rani Mukherji, is not your average Bollywood romance. It covers the falling in love with trial and tribulations but more so what happens after marriage. Is it really happily ever after?

As in all Bollywood flicks you don't find out if everything will be happy endings until almost the very last second and Saathiya really gets your heart a going. Aditya has been searching all night for Suhani after she did not get off the train from work. Little does he know that she has been hit by a car and is in the hospital. He rushes to her side and (sigh) gives a wonderful speech telling her to please come back. His words reach her and she wakes up. Finally, she says I love you, and we all say us too! The two have found each other not only that night but as husband and wife and the romance will live on and on.

Hmmm... now which one of these shall I make my husband watch for our Valentine's night?

Sadly, our editor limited us to only two scenes each, and we certainly had a hard time picking our favorites. We are sure we have missed some of yours since there were so many more on each of our lists! Bollywood may be extravagant in many ways, but the lesson to be taken away is simple: it is all about Love. If you're looking for inspiration to woo your loved one, then taking a tip or two from these scenes is bound to make your Valentine's Day a Bolly-filled memorable one!

From the BollySpice Team, Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours!
