Great songs are one of the things that make Hindi films so good, and in 2008 there were an abundance of great songs. There were full-on rock jams, gorgeous ballads, dance mixes that made you want to move, and of course bhangra and typical Hindi film beats. Lots of the albums encompassed all those styles and even some new cool sounds. It was very hard to come up with the best of the best, but here are our picks for the 25 best songs of 2008.

Special mention also must be made for two songs on the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack: ‘Jai Ho’ (Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah & Mahalakshmi Iyer) and ‘Dreams on Fire’ (Suzanne D'Mello) composed by the great A R Rahman.

We went through several versions of this list and there are more songs we wish we could have included (‘Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte’-Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, ‘Socha Hai’ "Sindbad the Sailor' -Rock On!!, ‘Yeh Pyaar Hai’ and ‘Dhoka’-Woodstock Villa, ‘Hawa Sun Hawa’- Ada,‘Tera Woh Pyaar’- Ru Bu Ru - I guess I sort-of sneaked them in!) but since we had to limit ourselves, these are the 25 songs that were the Great Songs in 2008!

Well I agree with the top choice choice for sure - its is not easy to create a song like Jash-e-bahaara and javed Ali rendered his voice to Rahman Sir's composition like a dream.

It is not asy to categorise each and every song in nos. There were many good ones which somehow did not got their due, due to the film being a flop or the song not being well picturised.

For eg: I think Rhaman Sir outdid himself with all the compositions for Yuvvraaj. Even though his Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na was marvelous in every track, Yuvvraaj music must have taken the highest thinking from a musician to create.

Shame Subhash Ghai used it for a flawed script and very very bad picturisation (with overpowering sets and close-ups).

Let me make a confession. I hate Katreena, more than I hate Salman (that's a personal thing, plzz). But I wanted this film to be a hit(even though I would have hated the actors to get the hit)- only for Rahamn Sir's music.

The Music had the postential to be a classic for generations to come.. just like Rahna Hai Tere Dil Mein (which at least had the benefit of nice and smooth picturisation of the songs).

ONE IMPORTANT THING...
I dont know what is it with the industry that they don't include muslim singers for awards. The rescently out Screen Awards Nominations does not give a nomination to Javed Ali for any-Jodhaa Akbar or Ghajini.

I hope that at least the rest awards give him his due.

PS: I am not related to him in any way. I am related to good music and his is one.

I feel that Dance Pe Chance superbly rendered by Sunidhi is better than the Dostana song. Although I reserve my judgment on that and others I want to add that the Filmfare Award should go to the catchy , simple and grows on you type of song that Sukhwinder Singh has rendered for SRK in his ghost voice - the winner Haule Haule. Simple lyrics too. And let us not forget the excellent offering of a non filmi Ghazal album by Asha Bhosle and Ghulam Ali - Generations. No film song can even come close to some of these Ghazals.Just listen to Asha croon Dil Bichadnese. What a rendition and what a voice.
