Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film in English!
By Andrew Stephenson - BollySpice.com
1 Jan 2009

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has confirmed that his upcoming project with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be filmed in English and aimed at the international market. “I know it is important to make films for our market but it's the time when our cinema should reach the remotest corner of the world,” he explains, “Language is hardly any barrier today and it is not the first time that I am making a film in English. Black was in English too.”

Economists are predicting that 2009 may see a turning point in Bollywood with international production houses such as Warner Bros, Disney and Sony becoming more involved in the industry and looking for partnerships and capital investments that will benefit from the predicted economic growth of India over the next five years. This should also lead to elements of production being outsourced to India from Hollywood and also the greater use of Indian actors being used in Hollywood, possibly through more Hollywood plots being located there.

Both Hrithik and Aishwarya are both well-established in Indo-American movie correspondence. Hrithik recently filmed extensive portions of his new movie Kites in the US with Mexican actress Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut. Aishwarya, of course, is probably Bollywood’s best-known face internationally with commercial appearances in movies such as Bride & Prejudice and Pink Panther 2, as well as independent cinema such as the underated Provoked and The Mistress of Spices. Together, the two had one of the biggest hits of 2008 in Jodhaa Akbar which won or was nominated for many international prizes in countries as diverse as Tatarstan, Poland and the UK.

Finally, Aishwarya appears to have signed up for a Back To The Future style movie alongside Akshay Kumar which hit the floor for filming in the spring. It’s provisionally titled Action Replay.

Nazir,

Provoked was a really good script (if you know its meaning), but very badly edited. The slow pace took away the intensity of the drmamtic scenes alot.

Mistress Of Spices, agreed was not a good film.. but then again I think the approach to adapt a good(not exceptional) story was its biggest flaw.

And Bride & Prejudice has been a big succes in US, UK and places in Europe and also in Australia. People love it over there, a rescent example being Nicole Kidman mentioning about the film and Ash in her interview.

And where and when did you see Piunk Panther 2 that you are saying Ash has a cameo in it?? Check the film first and not just read stupid gossip and papparazi columns. When the film releases, then we will talk on this matter!!

No one is taking on Aishwarya, it is reaching more and more audience, gradually. Ash has taken the step for the Indian Film Industry to be talked about in Hollywood, like no other actor has taken such step in all these years.

Appreciate her for her patience and work, than wide-eye appreciating bimbettes who instead of trying to do the same with hard work, hide their flaws by saying "Why go to Hollywood and act samll, when you can be treated as Queen in Bollywood?"

Shame on you and many like you.

Provoked was a weak script. Nothing worthy. Mistress of Spices filmed on one set was the worst movie I have seen. Bride and Prejudice was a little success. And in Pink Panther 2 Aish has a cameo. If we are to take on Hollywood why is it that we cannot come up with something like Slumdog Millionaire ?

This be surely interesting to see. Sanjay is a very talented film-maker. I personally enjoyed Saawariya but the film failed of its bad marketing (read it as - indifferent marketing where the viewer did not knew what to expect. We should have told that it is a fantasical film) and the over and over done sets.

I did not had problem with the clue visuals, but the set were really over-bearring many times, even for a fantasy film.

Hrithik and Aishwarya, thoguh many times said to be bigger stars than actors, have proved their mettle many times again and again. Films fail because of many reason like bad script, screenplay, editing... and the last is acting department.

They are great actors, who need film-makers who just don't want to capitalise their satr status and dancing powers and exceptionally good looks, but their talent... Though both worked wonders with their chemistry, the fact is that one of the key reason for good chemistry is good and effective script and screenplay- then only acting can intensify it.

With English being the language of the new film, it surely be a intersting and great leap for Indian Cinema - provided the film turns out a real good one.

Heres hoping for the same.
