"Only Aishwarya has beat the system" - Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu's career is currently witnessing an extreme high even if she may not be getting Bollywood's most prestigious roles. In multi-starrers like Race and Bachna Ae Haseeno she has walked away with accolades and has carved her own niche in the industry. Today, she admits that Bollywood is extremely male-dominated and adds that no actress can ever imagine having a dream run like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan who are all above the age of 40.
But she says, "The only actress in Bollywood who has been able to beat this system is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. You can call it her luck or just being at the right place at the right time, but the fact is that she has achieved this feat. In fact her fame goes beyond Bollywood as she is the only one who is recognised in Hollywood. This is something, which can't be said for even SRK or Big B." What a statement!
Why is it that we never see Bipasha bagging any title roles like Kareena's in Jab We Met or Aishwarya's in Jodhaa Akbar? "I don't think much while selecting a role. I do whatever makes me happy. But, fortunately for me my films are a nice mix of different characters. For every masala film I also have a Corporate, an Apaharan and the extremely arty Pankh to boast of," she explains. She also adds, "I am happy with the roles that I have done." Although she may not receive the same kind of praise as Rani Mukerji, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha brings her own style to any role she does. Most importantly, she seems very content with her career which is more than we can say for many actresses.

The comments make intersting reading. Obviously there is lot of fireworks about the comments of Basu. But what Ms Basu said is true.It is difficult to emulate Ash.

I'am from Nepal and i agree that Aishwarya is well know throughtout this world but i think she is known more for her beauty then her acting skills. She looks n has done superb in a typical indian lady role in Devdas n Hum Dil Chukay Sanam n thts it i guess. Whereas Bips is gorgeous,beautiful,sexy and self made women in the Indian cinema.
Aishwarya Rai has shown that she is capabable of doing well in the international field that dont while upholding Indian values. Modern Indian women are capable and can lead rest of the world. See Indra Nooyi,Sania Mirza as other similar examples.
Its so true, Aish has managed to achieve more than any indian male, whether her films have been hits or flops doesnt really matter because u can expect every film she does to work, its just how it is. Even SRK and Big B dont make hits with EVERY film. Aishs performances in cross over films have been very dominant, its all about her, all her, and everything to do with her. She carries these movies. And if internatoinal directors can beleive she is capable of such a thing and have cast it, it turly is an achievement, Provoked and Bride and prejduice was talkeda bout time and time again in NZ, shes been in the media more than some of NZ's own celebrities. Well done to her ay, She really has showed teh world what she is capable of, and that too by not stripping her way to teh top like many of bollywoods now happening girls, Kareena, Priyanka to name a few. Listen here.....We knew Aishwarya Rai films in Hollywood are flopped. But Directors from Hollywood still craving to get her in their future project... that shows that she has this CLASS being an actress!!! Aishwarya Rai is truly No 1 actress of Asia....
The way Ash has managed to get roles without really getting into skin show and compromising dignity is remarkable. People would have felt furious if she had shown skin and indulged in acts normal in Hollywood movies. Getting recognition abroad by sticking to one's own rules is difficult, but as Bipasha said Ash has done it. Good show.
I am from America, and from what I see and can actually say, yes Aishwarya Rai is recognizable by NON INDIANS, meaning whites blacks mexicans etc etc...she truly is working to become something special....especially with PINK PANTHER comming soon!
to all the people who are complaining or are cribbing about aish's iconic status abroad, open your eyes and ears wide open...cos i believe u dont understand the difference between international recognition and popularity amongst the indians abroad...its true that srk and big b have a lot of fan following abroad too but that is primarily amongst the indian population abroad...as far as ash is concerned she has worked in crossover films as the main protagonist of the film...get your fundas right before blurting out...

Aishawarya isn't as popular in Hollywood as Bipasha thinks. Her publicist has tried to make it happen I'm sure, but she is not known here. The movie fans here are not interested in her at all. We already have gorgeous actresses who act better, so why should we focus on a girl from India?
that's sweet but what are the regognition Aish had in hollywood? the movie she does had flopped! I think she'll have a lot to do befor regognition. But seems that Aish is not interrested in Hollywood anymore.

Earlier our roles in Hollywood was restricted to minor ones, but now everyone kareena to bipasha are getting offers from overseas. India is recognised in right manner. Credit to some extent is due to the energetic efforts of Rai in her LOreal,Longine and tussad ventures.Critics and rivals may find her plastic and overacting etc but it is a fact that she carries weight and is recognisable the world over.
