The Final Analysis: The Unforgettable Tour
By Aly Kassam - BollySpice.com

Note: If you do not wish to read spoilers regarding the ‘Unforgettable Tour’ do NOT read on! Also, this is an audience member’s account of the show and is largely opinionated.

The Background

For fans living abroad , Bollywood really is a big deal. For some, it is a chance to connect with something special back home or just get in touch with our culture in some way or another. In fact, many would say that fans abroad are even crazier than the ones back in Mumbai. So whenever a world tour decides to touch upon several cities across the globe, crowds go wild. And you can see why! We watch their movies all the time, see them on screen, but we live halfway around the world from them. For this reason, when they descend upon our city for one night, we want to make the most of it.

In the past, Bollywood tours have come around as much as twice a year, but these days we’re lucky to get a concert every other year. The logistics of a show have changed—more money is required, better venues, more promoters, etc. Wizcraft Entertainment has tried to make the Unforgettable Tour slightly different from the rest by including several special appearances around the globe while underlining an important environmental cause along the way.

While analyzing this concert, I’m going to look at it as a fan rather than some sort of crazy-anal critic because at the end of the day, I am a Bollywood fan and nothing more and this is precisely the reason that I attended the show.

The Breakdown

Let me just start off by saying that I had a FANTASTIC time at the premiere show in Toronto last night! The energy was unbelievable, the performers were almost legendary and the show was on fire. The problem is, if you ask someone who wasn’t sitting in the floor seats, they would have a different story to tell. In fact, some people I know decided to sit in the regular seats rather than purchasing floor seats (the price is ridiculous!) and after the show while I was gushing about how much I loved it, they were telling me how crappy they thought it was. This is because of the simple fact that the show seemed designed for those members of the audience who paid a lot of money to sit on the floor, while the entire upper audience was neglected (which is the majority of the auditorium!). No effort was made to interact with them and they were almost disregarded while the front audience got immense attention!

All the stars performed extremely well (more on that later) and were full of energy, but there were times that you wish they had interacted with the audience more. Unlike Akshay Kumar who was literally one with the audience, stars like Preity Zinta and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan performed beautifully and then just left the stage, which was a tad disappointing.

Another personal problem I had with the show was that I felt they missed out on performing some really great numbers from their films and I wish they had all paired up more. For example, Akshay only had one solo act and he didn’t pair up with any star to perform his other songs.

However, I have to say it was a great initiative taken by Wizcraft to highlight environmental concerns during the tour—it made it seem like the tour was created for something more than just money (which it probably wasn’t!). It was an extremely effective way to target thousands of people and forcing them to watch because their stars are advocating the cause, even though this sounds very superficial.

Also, I just want to add that the show was NOT SOLD OUT like the promoters are claiming! The floor was sold out, but there were loads of seats at the top and most people I talked to say the show was probably 70% sold out at best. But it really doesn't matter how many people are there, what matters is how many people enjoy it.

The Performers

By far, one of the main highlights of the show was Akshay Kumar who was an exclusive addition to the Toronto show. He has this way of really getting involved in the audience and causing the energy level to skyrocket. He performed to songs from ‘Singh is Kinng’, ‘Heyy Babyy’ and naturally danced to ‘Hare Ram’ from ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya’. He came down from the stage several times to interact with the audience and also brought people up on stage. The only problem was that he didn’t have enough time on stage because he was a “special appearance” and he got a 20 or 30 minute solo act and that’s about it! But still, a brilliant performer!

Amitabh Bachchan was absolutely legendary. When you’re watching him, it’s hard to believe that you may never see him do this kind of show live again. And that in itself is an extraordinary feeling! His sections focused mainly on his older songs, which I felt was extremely appropriate because those are the songs that made him famous. He sang about 4-5 of his biggest hits and later on the other stars each performed a song from one of his films. However, the BEST part was when he recited famous dialogues from his films. Man, you could literally see the intensity in his eyes. In fact, he started getting tears in his eyes when reciting a dialogue from ‘Deeewar’. His energy and vibe was inimitable and he brought an entirely new dimension to the stage.

Abhishek Bachchan was fantastic for his first world tour. He did all of his hit tracks from films like ‘Bunty aur Babli’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, ‘Rakht’, ‘Dus’ and many more but the best part was when he performed his father’s ‘Khaike Paan’ from the original Don! Here’s another performer who is really good with the audience and it wasn’t until he came on stage that the energy level really peaked. He was so comfortable; it never looked like he was trying too hard.

When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan takes the stage, you can always expect a fabulous dance if nothing else. That’s exactly what she brought to the table—extremely graceful performances to some of her hit tracks including those from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Dhoom 2’. However, one wishes she performed to more of her popular songs like ‘Salaam’ and some from ‘Devdas’ because she stuck to the same films which was a tad disappointing. And my oh my, has she gained weight or what? I’m sorry to sound so superficial and cruel, but she didn’t look like the Aishwarya we recently saw in Jodhaa Akbar! Nevertheless, she looked beautiful and danced like a dream.

You couldn’t help but smiling when Preity Zinta performed because you could tell she was having loads of fun. She performs with a big smile that’s infectious and I was so extremely thrilled to see her perform ‘Bhumbro’ because I’ve always felt she was amazing in that song. The only problem was that none of the ladies were very interactive with their audience and only spoke for about a minute and that’s it. It would really have been nice to see them sink their teeth into the concert and let us feed off their energy.

Most were surprised to see that Ritesh Deshmukh was so charismatic on stage. He really did have some awesome songs to perform, my favourite being Amitabh’s ‘Chumma De’ number which was my all-time favourite as a child.

Vishal and Shekhar also had loads of energy, but there were times when they got so loud we couldn't hear them!

The Performances and Technicalities

Each and every dance was awe-inspiring in terms of choreography—Shiamak Davar really outdid himself with this tour. You could see the effort that went into each and every number from the actors to the extraordinary background dancers. Special mention goes to the costumes which were outstanding. My favourite had to be the costumes during Amitabh’s ‘Rang Barse’ which were stunning.

Generally, the show was very well organized considering the fact that it actually started ON TIME which is a relatively new concept for Bollywood shows! I personally felt that the show flowed well, but I heard other comments that said it was too choppy. There was a problem with the sound which made it very hard for people at the back to hear when anyone was speaking into the microphone or when songs were playing on full blast.

Each actor brought something different to the stage, a different dimension of Indian cinema, but yes, the show isn’t all it was cracked up to be. Another problem was that a lot of hit tracks weren't performed. I mean when Abhishek and Aishwarya are together, you expect at least something from Guru, but there was nothing! I have to mention that the finale was outstanding! You can probably guess what song they performed there. It was an amazing experience if you have seats close to the stage, but if you’re not sitting on the floor it probably wasn’t worth it because you just sat and watched rather than get involved. Herein lies the show’s largest flaw, that although it attempts to create a night full of wholesome entertainment, it really isn’t interactive at all, especially for the majority of the audience in regular seats.

The reason most of the audience felt distanced from the stars was simply because the venue was TOO big! The Rogers Centre, though a very nice venue, did not fit the bill for this concert because the stage is too far from most of the seats.

The Final Verdict

So with the prices so high for the tour, was it really worth all the money? I’d say if you’re going, go all out and get good seats because that’s the only way you’re REALLY going to enjoy the concert. For the first time, I bothered to get floor seats and I can say it was worth every penny because I enjoyed my night to the fullest and had a rocking time. However, I can’t say the same for others I know who said their $100 seats weren’t worth the money at all.

Of course, from a fan’s perspective, I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. I think I’m quite right when I say that if you’re a fan of Indian cinema you must be a fan of Amitabh Bachchan because he’s one of the very pillars. And if you are, then this show is completely worth it because it’s like one grand tribute to Bachchan and his contribution to cinema. Also, if you are a fan of old films from the 70’s you will have a blast.

If you’re a Bachchan fan, this concert is for you. However, I’m not sure it will really be ‘unforgettable’ for some sections of the audience. If you already have your tickets, I hope you have a wonderful time at the show and enjoy it as much as I did!

Hi Guys,

I was browsing to find the reviews of Chicago show, which I attended in person with my family and was sitting quite near to Stage. I

I wanted to see other people's reaction for the show.

For me, It was truely "unforgettable". It was such a grand and amazing show which can't be described in words. I think Abhishek was in best, he was such a crowd pleasure. He had such a pleasant vibes, which everyone could feel as soon as he strikes. He intereacted with pubic a lot and I was fortunate that he interacted with my family from stage.

Hearing "lines make legend" dialogs from Amitabh was such a great experience. He almost cried when he finished his "Deewar" dialog- "Kush to bahut hoge tum"....

Aish was not looking that great on her first song, but looking gorgeous in traditional out fits.

Priety was enjoying on stage... probabaly could interect more with the public.

Ritesh, Vishal & Shekhar were complimenting good.

It was truely an unforgettable joyous ride.

Those in NYC, don't miss this life time opportunity.

FACT: P.Z. hooked up with her bodyguard the night she was a no show at an afterparty for some VIPs in Toronto. She only wanted white meat served in her hotel room (no blacks, no hispanics, no females). TRUE, no gossip.

I was at Unforgettable show in Houston yesterday. What a waste of time & money? It was very disappointing...poor dance by performers like Bachhans, loud music and no interaction with audience. They all looked very superficial types..I understand they are here to make money but what about a genuine entertainment? We all went because of Amitabh, Abhisekh etc..so they cashed their name & reputation..also I posted the same comment on Unforgettable tour blog theunforgettabletour.com/blog/...but they removed it after an hour so it seems tour organizers are misleading people as well..

the show was truly an unforgettable show. i went to watch the show on sunday here San Francisco, it was, i would say that i will never forget in my life. everybody performed so good. the most touchy moment was when, Amitabh Bachan, came on the stage. Abhishek Bachan, Ritesh Deskmukh, Vishal and Shekar, Priti Zinta, Maduhri Dixit and not forgetting Ashwariya Bachan, everybody performed so good. Jaya Bachan came to the stage too. If they are coming to your city, please go watch. the money is worth it. LIKE I SAID" I WILL NEVER FORGET IN MY LIFE.

Manish

My forefathers? I don't know about my forefathers but my parents WERE Indian citizens before becoming Canadian citizens. I think you're referring to the definition of a "Person of Indian Origin." I qualify as a PIO because of my 'forefathers' as you put it.

NRI was created for tax purposes and if we are not Indian citizens we have nothing to do with paying taxes in India. So maybe Mr. 'Braniac' Manish should read the definition.
40. Aryan | 26 Jul 2008 - 10:08

The legend Amitabhji, son Abhi and bahu ash also entire team was amazing. No one in the bollywood can compare with bachchan's, he is superb.
some people make foolish comments, and are talking about religion, they are jealous with Bachchan family. The show was really great......it was an unforgettable tour.
39. Manish | 26 Jul 2008 - 02:18

Sunita,

Actually, even if you are not an Indian Citizen, you are termed an NRI due to your forefathers being Indian Citizens. You should read the definition of NRI.

We all are praying GOD for your Speedy Recovery from your Illness. Hoping to see you fit and well in LA Show. I am sure you will be as energetic as Toronto Show.

My Long Cherished Dream of seeing ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ came true in Toronto. He brought back my old memories of seeing him on Big Screen in 1970’s by singing and dancing hit numbers from DON, DEEWAR, Yaraana, Kalia, Silsila, Amar Akbar Anthony etc. which are all my favorites, electrifying the entire Stadium and enthralling 10,000 plus audiences, who all were humming to the tunes. My special thanks to Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and the entire team for making this event ‘The most Spectacular Live Show I have ever seen in USA/Canada’. I was dying to hear Amitabh’s voice. His unforgettable dialogues with his ‘Unforgettable Voice’ from movies like Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie etc. were a blessing in disguise. Last but not least, he also entertained young audience with his new movie hits.

I had never expected ‘Jaya Bachchan’ in Toronto. We all were taken a back when she appeared on stage. My hearty thanks to Jayaji for joining the ‘First Family of Bollywood’. We all remember Jaya Bhaduri from good old days of ‘GUDDY’.

Abhishek Bachchan was looking ‘HOT’ and ‘STUNNING’ and driving girls crazy. He stole my heart by dancing to numbers from Don and Silsila. For a moment I felt I am reliving the moments of Amitabh Bachchan of 1970’s. I truly adore him.

Rhitesh Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, Vishal-Shekar added an extra fuel to the already HOT Stadium atmosphere. All-In-All, it was a memorable event, which will be the last stage show from Amitabh Bachchan considering his age. So, if you are a Bachchan’s fan, then there should not be any second thoughts. Get, set and Go and buy the tickets.

Many hearty thanks to Amitabh Bachchan for organizing shows of this magnitude all over the world. Also my hearty Congratulations to the entire team for making the premier show a Grand Success.

I respect Bachchan's not only because they r superstars but they r a perfect family, they respect each other very much and their indian values and cultur.Amitabh bachchan is doing this show for a noble cause, to aware people about globalwarming and to promote his son to world level and this is the true duty of a perfect father. And anything that would come to his way to obstruct him would be oblitrated whether they r bollywood Khan's r anything else.
As far this tour is concerned this is truly unforgettable.
BOLO BACHCHAN BABA KI JAI.

I am a firm believer that people want to go to these show but they don't want to mortgage their homes for it. If this show cost 1.3 million US/CDN thanks to the strong dollar and if the average price was $65, you would have easily gotten 30,000 people for the Big B and family considering there was no other show in competition. Your break even would have been 20,000 and made a nice profit of 650k. Think about it, South Asians love to go out and get dressed up. If a family of 4 costs $260 on average, you would have brought the house down. You can still charge your ridiculous prices for the first few rows to satisfy your "snobby, elite" crowd. When are the local promoters going to learn, South Asians are intelligent value seekers. It doesn't matter what they are charging in the states, it only matters what your local market is willing to pay and don't worry, they are going to get their clocks cleaned as well given the subprime and real estate mess. Heck at an average price of 65, you would have had people coming from Michigan, Ohio and New York State. Price the show for everyone, let the refs in, they are the ones that got your back!!

Worst show ever... meant only for the floor people, catered to people with big bucks. A light was shining in my face the whole time which made looking at the screen a pain, the acoustics sucked, the production of the entire show was shoddy at best and I have seen school functions go off smoother than this professionally produced piece-of-crap.
31. pupu | 22 Jul 2008 - 11:20

I do not think show was expensive at all. Considering what kind of money they get in India. I have said it before blame goes to local promoters and to the economy. In future there should be total of 4 shows in USA and Canada.
1- LA or SF
2-NY or NJ
3-Houston or Chicago
4-one in Canada.
Otherwise local promoters will be keep on losing money.
Unless Bollywood stars are willing to make less money than what they make in India then only we can have more shows.

Bachchan flays attempts to bring down `Unforgettable' tour

Mumbai (PTI): Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has accused a section of the media and the film fraternity conspired to bring down his much hyped ongoing "Unforgettable" tour.

"I am however shocked and covered in disbelief at being privy personally to a design by certain sections of the media and the fraternity to bring down this show. To kill it, to malign and write it off. This is shameful and disgusting", he wrote on his blog.

However, he has rubbished the media speculations that he was hinting at Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and few others.

Hitting out at the media, Bachchan said, "I rubbish their claims on named individuals in the fraternity who are behind the negative campaigning. They push through some more names on mobile. I rubbish that as well. At this rate they will run through the entire industry."

28. | 22 Jul 2008 - 01:28

I have been reading a lot about about this world tour from all sections of media- the good, the bad and the ugly. Since I stay in Delhi (India), I very obviously can not attend these shows. Nor hence I would like to comment on the capacity of audience or the ticket pricing.

All I want to point out to all the people who have commented that why are they bringing the personal lives of the Performers into their Professional work. This is unfortunate but true.

Agreed that Amitabh Bachchan is the brainchild of this tour, but he is not the person responsible for the pricing of tickets. Everyone here is making him the one greedy for money like he is pocketing all of it. Some people also said about the promoters not doing any donation, this is so insensitive. Wizcraft has joined hands with Noble Awardee R.K.Pachaury to raise money to light up a million villages around the globe. The tour is also working towards Global Warming scenario.

When has any previous tour done this much??

Many also said unnecessary and unsavoury comments about Abhi and Aish's wedding list. What has this to do with their tour and performance??? How personally do we know them to even question them???

Isn't it their own prerogative to decide. I for one reason is not questioning it because I saw Amitji in an interview where he said his mother was in hospital at that time and it was this low key he could have thought of as a responsible son. He also said that Abhi and Ash wanted to meet and thank the media after wedding but since the media had bombarded outside their car so much, they were not even first allowed to go to Teji Bachchan for her blessings. How can they think about others blessings before the eldest member of the family.

Making comments is healthy as every one is free to give their own opinion. But specially designing the words to pull someone down or show them in wrong light is very malign and disgraceful behaviour.

I could have well written huge praises about the show making myself one of the audience member, but why should I??

For once lets treat the professional and personal life different and not knee down to intrusive judgements. They are celebrities and so their personal life is for all to see. Yet they have a life of their own and no one should comment on that when you have never been behind their closed doors.

I stand by that for all in the tour and also those who are not.

We are humans, the most civilised animals on earth. At least show this to be true.

Yuck - I think Papu's been spending too much time with his parents. Their religion-based analysis is rubbing off on him!!!

About ticket prices...
Overcharging for shows seems to be a trend, in Toronto at least. Back when "Guru" premiered we had a similar problem. The film premiere was in a theatre and it was 50% capacity at best. Ticket prices were extreme and same thing, at the last minute ticket prices were slashed. Ash and Abhishek said two words and disappeared.

I will agree with some of the comments about the men seeming more into the crowd than the women. Maybe that's how our girls have to present themselves in India, and to us in the West it comes across as being stand-offish and snobby. Has the "good girl" thing trained them to 'hold back'?
25. pupu | 21 Jul 2008 - 14:43

OK let me clear this. I did not bring religion in it cause any issue rather its a fact that many Afghan's and Pakistani go to these shows. And naturally they want to see one of their own. Not in anyway i meant to make this religion issue may be I should have said Khan's instead Muslim actors. Not to forget the organizers Mohammad Morani brother who have been bringing 99% of shows to USA were not hired instead non experienced in USA Wizcraft was hired. This all added to a poor performances. Ganesh has been doing most of the past shows choreography he was not even part of this show.

I think the choreography is irrelevant as long as the current one did a good job...and Shiamak really did!!!
24. ThinkUSA | 21 Jul 2008 - 11:49

This message is for Pupu.WHy do you have to drag the religion into this fun filled program.I an not much of movie person, but i do see some sites just to keep updated whats going on back in India.
Pupu have you ever thought maybe the Khan's didn't have time as they had prior commitment. Our Country is the only place you could see where there is so much of diversity and many languages. But still we are " United " as India.Pupu British ruled over India using the Slogan Divide & Rule, that they did so that they can rule India by creating the clash between religions.I really feel bad & sad when i see or hear something like this, when religion is brought into each & every petty things.
I still dont understand why there is something called terrorism. Those people are making it a religion issue throught out the world whereas it should be Humanity that we shoudl think right now.I dont understand the war mostly which happens only in midle east.no idea what or why they have grudge against all the country. They do all these in the name of "God" which is more pathetic.
Sorry i didn't talk much about the tour because i am not interested in that.Anyway its nice to hear that some people enjoyed the program.
Thanks & Regards

I was at the show and Dare I say this IT WAS NOT SOLD OUT,forget selling out it was not even close.I have been to sold out events there (30,000 people are usually there in indian shows) 6000 to 7000 in a venue of over 50,000 is not 70 % sold out. it was not even close to being half full even at the seats that were open. Show was good but not unforgettable,I am sorry but I give this show grade F
22. pupu | 21 Jul 2008 - 01:46

Other thing is Future of Bolywood shows in USA is going to change in my opinion. Now these stars do make much more money in India based on that this show was not expensive show. We can not blame stars and organizers but the local promoters need to learn few things here. The way I see it future of bollywood shows is going to be like this
One shoe for San francisco and la
one show for New york and NJ
One show for middle states
thats it.
We all ready saw the drop in shows sold in USA this time 50% less locations were sold . And the promoters in Orlando , Atlanta and other's made the right decision.
So do not blame the bollywood they are making way more money than coming to USA. They have to charge higher price. Akshay is making 40 karoor rupees for one movie. not a joke and he deserves it.
I mean we all know people in India make more money than we living in USA these days. So if we will not pay them high price they do not have to come here.
21. pupu | 21 Jul 2008 - 01:26

I personally think and I said this before. Bachchans should have announced that they will give away some of the money to charity. At least this would have justified so expensive show.
I think there is lots of jealousy for Bachchans and for this no one is responsible but Bachchans. I believe Big B's wife is behind all their success they never even mention her name in public.
among other things arrogant way of acting up and not inviting many to the wedding has contributed in for the jealousy of people for bachchans.

Sorry to say but truth is Many muslims did not go to this show as there was not one Khan chosen. On top of that Wizcraft has no experience in bringing these shows to USA and Murani's been doing this for years.
Ganesh is awesome choreographer he has been coming with shows for many years he was also not picked.
Next super star is Akshay Kumar.
this is all my opinion.
Reply:
Hmmm, I understand your opinion but don't agree with it, especially because you are dragging religion into it. Why must religion be dragged into everything? It's irrelevant, don't you think? However, I respect your opinion.

I was at the tour, with good floor seats. I was dissapointed that they didn't have tour merchandise. I was hoping for t-shirts, or posters, or something, but nothing :(
otherwise i loved it minus the fact that preity and aishwarya weren't on enough!

u know what i don't know why some one relate entertainment with the money .
u watch a show , u like or u don't like . let it be like that .
not to say organisers charge more money this & that . if at all ticket was more than anyone's pocket , why to buy .
and if u bought the ticket , enjoyed the show - gr8 , if not its okay
go to backstage and see how much hard work these guys did to perform well on stage.
we should appreciate the hard work rather than talk negative .
that's all my submission.

Kinda was good, kinda was uh/uh...

The crowd did a great job of never staying too close to their seats.

I knew the show would be more hype than real from watching the promos from the stars and I am glad that I was right and decided not to attend it. From what it seems, I think the stars just came to US/Canada to make money overseas (probably because their Indian funds were drying up). I would be really surprised that Big B had no say so regarding the prices for the show. He could have declined the deal if he knew that his fans would be cheated with such high prices.

You're right, this show was only catered for the ones that chose to blow $300+ per seat. Previously, the most expensive seats went for $100+ and for this show the cheapest seats were a $100 which was quite ridiculous as they had chosen a wrong arena to host this event. If it had taken place at the ACC, perhaps they would have maxed capacity and most of the viewers would have enjoyed the show. The Rogers Ctr was huge for the show and given that they couldn't sell out, the sound echoed alot and it wasn't a fun show to watch. They had also blocked off the biggest screen available in the Rogers Ctr which was a dumb move! The other screens were all facing straight, another dumb move as the viewers on the sides could have atleast viewed the screens IF the 2 on each side were slightly tilted. I am a huge bollywood fan and was very excited about this show - even took 11 of my closest family/friends to this and after seeing the show, I would have much rather spent that money elsewhere. To be quite honest, the SRK shows in Toronto are much more fun than this so called "unforgettable" show. Akshay's performance was an exception to this rule, however, I do strongly believe that the girl he chose to bring up on state, was someone he personally knew and was rehearsed - was quite obvious in the girl's reaction as she knew what to do next and several other things.

Till the next bollywood show...

I agree, the Rogers Centre was just too big! ACC is much, much better.

prices were not slashed! extra sections were opened up after the stage setup was completed (mostly to the sides-and a common practice with most concerts). Regarding prices-8 of bollywoods biggest stars for a max ticket price of 300 to be front row which works out to $37.50 a star. I personally would have paid $300 just to see amitabh!!!! These same seat are ranging from $1000-3500 at venues across the US. Hope all had a great time we do check all the fans comments everywhere and will do what we can to rectify situations for future shows. Thank you for you support.

I understand about the prices, however I know people in New York who got $60 tickets and got decent, if average, seats. Our lowest was $97! That's slightly steep, even if the concert was good.

However, you did a great job promoting the concert and it was very well organized to kudos on that :)

Wasn't Madhuri supposed to perform? Did she miss her plane?
Reply:
Madhuri is only performing at venues in the U.S.A. as well as Vancouver, Canada.

I would have loved to see her perform!

ash was sick wiz measles and abhi had to learn her songs... that's why she did not perform so much

my personal opinion though is not much importance shud be given to them... as someone remarked, in hollywood if a star behaves in an 'elitist' manner, they are removed from the spotlight

here, we've got their wedding where a photographer was bashed up. fans hero-worship the Big B. in her earlier movies, ash wasn't such a good actress, yet she has been given another chance... they did owe something to their fans for the wedding... maybe a wave to their fans or just a wedding pic... but no, they went on & on abt this being their personal matter

and now just before the release of Sarkar Raj and the start of the Unforgettable Tour, they start being nice to their fans... this can't be a coincidence surely?

Quite honestly I was a bit disappointed and I had 2nd row seats. I wasn't impressed by the choreography at all and the back up dancers seemed quite unpracticed. The choreography they gave to Aishwarya was terrible and did not showcase her talent at all. Aishwarya is supposed to be the queen of Bollywood and that did not come across. Perhaps she really is pregnant and that is why they gave her such poor choreography.

Otherwise, Akshay was INCREDIBLE, Abhishek's crowd-pleasing entrance had the fans on his side all night, Vishal and Shekhar are real entertainers, Preity and Ritesh we very good, and Amitabh is Amitabh!

Thank you for your opinions. I have bought tickets to see the show. I also decided to buy floor seats but i figured if i was going i wanted to enjoy the show! I was hesitant to do it but I've grown up watching Amitabh and thought it would be cool to see him live. I'm afraid your recount of the show was what i was worried about. They perform yes but concerts are meant to connect with the audience. And from your review and others on the Internet it sounds like they barely threw us a bone. Its my first show like this and i will let you know how it goes.

this show was not worth the price. $1000 for few first rows....COME ON!!! Give me a break, the greedy promoters priced this higher than The Police, Rolling Stones and Madonna!!! From inside sources, these promoters with targeting an "elite" crowd...No refs please!! Well they got their elite crowd, all 8000 of them and that's including comps. Greedy promoters ruined it for everyone. First they are enthusiastic and price this in the stratosphere, then they get a huge wake up call when they only sold 6000 seats a week ahead. Solution, let's have a barnyard sale, reduce prices to $65 and offer buy 3 get 1 free. Well what about the people who bought seats prior to the sale??? They did nothing for them. So this how it's going to play out. Nobody in the future is going to pay for a concert ahead of the scheduled date because of the games played here. Think about it, we have not had a show of this magnitude in 2 years and there are 700,000 South Asians in TO and only 8000 showed up!!! Don't blame Amitabh, he really is for his adoring fans and not money, I know this from a personal level. Wizcraft and the local promoters are to blame for this fiasco. Well let me tell you, if they made the average price $75 with the highest price 250 and lowest 50, you would have 30k plus there easily and everyone from all walks of life would have enjoyed it.
Reply:
Yes, Ethnic Guru who promoted this in Toronto along with Wizcraft, really messed up I personally believe. The fact that they slashed ticket prices last minute was very unprofessional and not fair to those that paid FULL price!

I had 5th row seats and was very disappointed with the show. First off, the was a huge boom with a camera guy blocking my view the entire night. Second, security wouldn't even let us stand and dance. Security were total asses in my section and even ushered this old man out while his wife pleaded with them to let him be. I'm huge Aishi fan and was very disappointed that she was on stage so little. Not exactly working hard for the money. And what's the deal with not selling any sovenirs? And what's the deal with everyone bringing in cameras and videocameras - i'm so disappointed that I paid attention to the rules. I would have loved to have gotten some shots of my fav stars since I am a professional photographer.

The comments here are honest and frank unlike the very rude often vulgar ones you see in net forums for indian movies. Thanks Aly kasam and everyone.

The Show was awesome, and its not ur fault guys because a fan wants more than expected from his star performer.(all problems of seats and place r trivial problems and done by organigers not by performers). At the end of the day the performences were stupendous and actors should be appreciated for that
5. pupu | 20 Jul 2008 - 00:41

Even looking at the pictures Akshay looks awesome. He is heck of good performer. Electrifying Akshay.
4. pupu | 20 Jul 2008 - 00:39

was the show sold out in Toronto?
Reply:
The promoters say it was sold out but I personally didn't think it was because I saw empty seats. But regardless, it was entertaining.

I enjoyed your commentary, however disagree unfortunately. I was on the floor and also agree that the show was catered to those on the floor. However, for all the love and adoration that millions of fans have for Amitabh,I think that Amitabh could have speak a bit more to the audience. His dance moves were scarce and at times I thought that perhaps he was not the one singing the actual hits. Abishek and Ash should have had more duets together, as their fans lives for seeing them together on stage. Too be honest, none of them except for Akshay really seemed like they wanted to be there. I had the chance to meet them this week , and I must say my love with the industry was shaken. The stars were very abrupt, short, and rude. I understand that they are extremely busy people, however for those who claim to do this for the fans, in my few interactions with them this week as well as their presence at the concert, I did not get the sense that they truly did care about their fans. I feel extremely disappointed as my years of passion for the industry is no longer there. I have always dreamt of the moment that I would meet them, and I did this week and almost wish I hadn't. I also used to be a huge fan, however am shocked by their behaviours. In Hollywood, starts that are "snobs" or those that act as "elitists" are quickly removed from the spotlight. In India, these stars will always be stars regardless of their behaviour or actions due to their immense impact they have had on the industry. If you read Amitabh's blog, you will see that he criticizes the one reporter that spoke out at the press conference in Toronto this week. This journalist was simply asking what the Bachchans thought of the high ticket prices. Even if the question was posed in a negative manner, this is the job of the media, to find out answers to questions that the public may have. Mr. Bachchan as you can see in his blog, is quite upset at this outburst that occurred. There are just some thoughts.. look forward to seeing what everyone else has to say.

Wow I really enjoyed reading what you had to say. I've talked to several people who feel the same way as you did about the concert. But personally I had a good time so I felt my night was well spent.

As for hearing the things you have to say about personal encounters with the stars, that is extremely interesting but somehow not shocking. I have heard many times about stars being very rude to fans even though they talk about how much they love them. Really enjoyed reading your input! Thank you!

And I agree about the comment made at the press conference. Personally I felt ticket prices WERE too high and the journalist had every right to ask that question even if he didn't ask it politely. It was a legit. question, I mean there are so many people who couldn't come because of the outrageous price. Also, slashing the prices at the last minute was a horrible move by promoters because everyone else who bought tickets early was cheated! That really bothered me.

Most of us aren't NRIs, yo! Non-resident Indians are Indian citizens who are living abroad somewhere. The term was created for tax purposes...

We're desis, South Asians, Indo-Canadians, persons of Indian origin, whatever, but we ain't NRIs.

On another note, Bachchan carried the show hands down! If Amitabh wasn't part of the show I would have been pissed. I think people would have enjoyed themselves more if the show was in a theatre or at the Molson Amphitheatre. Rogers Centre is too big, and the show isn't as big as some mega Rolling Stones concert or something.
