After Main Hoon Na, Farah Khan comes with yet another film that has a whole new concept. Om Shanti Om is something you’ve never seen before, something new to Bollywood. Fortunately, Om Shanti Om lives up to your expectations! This time, Farah brings up a whole new genre that is reincarnation. Some people might think it’s a remake of Karz but it’s completely different. On the other hand, the climax of the film is comparable to the climax of Madhumati (1958).
Main Hoon Na was a great directional debut by Farah and this one isn’t any less. It’s even better and much more entertaining! Farah proves yet again that this is not just a male-dominated industry and there is place for female directors especially with her presence. People might not have high expectations from this one as the promos weren’t as catchy as Main Hoon Na but the film undoubtfully springs a surprise!
The story begins with Om Prakash Makhija (Shahrukh Khan), who is madly in love with Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone), and his friend Pappau Master (Shreyas Talpade). Both are junior artists who are willing to do their best just to become superstars. Om’s mom, Bela (Kirron Kher), has big faith in her son and believes that he will make it big someday and meet his ladylove. Several incidents occur and finally Om meets Shanti. They meet several times and become friends but suddenly, Om discovers that Shanti is already married to the biggest producer of the 70s, Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal). Om’s dreams shatter and he falls helplessly until one day, Mukesh takes Shanti to the sets of his upcoming project, Om Shanti Om. He tricks her and burns the whole set and Om runs away to save her but unfortunately both die. Om gets reborned as Om Kapoor and gets visions of his previous life until he finally remembers everything and aims to take revenge from Mukesh seeking help from of Sandy (Deepika Padukone) who looks like Shanti entirely!
Farah Khan’s direction is first-rate. She mixes comedy, romance, drama and suspense jointly and gets it all in the right time. V. Manikanandan's cinematography is top-notch. The sets by Sabu Cyril are wonderful. The dialogues by Mayur Puri and background music by Sandeep Chowta are good. Vishal & Shekhar’s music is really good. Main Agar Kahoon & Deewangi (21-actor song) are the finest amongst the rest.
The best scene in the film is the Filmfare awards that include humorous scenes of Abhishek Bachchan in Dhoom 5, Akshay Kumar in Khiladi Returns and romantic scenes of Amisha Patel & Dia Mirza with SRK in Phir Bhi Dil Hai N.R.I & Main Bhi Hoon Na respectively. However, the film could’ve been better if there was more in the first half and the second half should’ve been fast paced. Also, Arjun’s role is somehow half-baked for the reason that he doesn’t get much scope as a villain in the second half. The climax song was kind of lengthy as well. Otherwise everything else is fine.
Shahrukh Khan is wonderful in both roles. He brings up a mix of comedy and romance with a pinch of thrill in the second half and he certainly makes you believe the character. Deepika Padukone is superb; she performs extremely well especially in the emotional scenes in addition, she looks ravishing all through. One wishes her voice wasn't dubbed though! Shreyas Talpade is exceptional. Arjun Rampal is brilliant especially in the scene before the interval. Kirron Kher is terrific. Javed Sheikh is fine. Bindu is funny. The rest are good.
Overall, Om Shanti Om is definitely one of the best films made in 2007. Whoever is expecting another Main Hoon Na will be surprised positively. A sure-shot hit!

What does one do when he has lots of money? One would make a nonsense remake of old hits like "Karz." The only thing notable that SRK and Farah did is they made completely fool of themselves by satiring great actors in that movie. Maybe because SRK cannot act like those great actors so he decided to make joke of their acting skills. I thought he was done with "killing" old hits after his version of DON. I am so sorry Amitabh. Enough is enough. I do not think SRK will stop until someone like him will remake of "DDLJ" mimicking his "goatly" dialogues. It could be a great comedy hit, SRK. I surely will definitely see it.
a typical srk film, clean and wholesome.the party song was good, but deepika in the first half was very good.Abhishek and Akshay, kudos to u as no one in the film fraternity r capable of laughing at themselves.excellent keep it up.farah khan and srk make a good team.
the movie has nothing new except new heroin. its like mixture of old movies. except 1-2 songs there is nothing to listen. SRK must concentrate on acting "not" "overacting". and one suggestion for FARAH, next time please come with something new.
Loved the movie, and this review was awesome. Completely agree with everything. Overall I believe OSO wins over Saawariya. This just proves all the SRK haters wrong. And the people that are calling this movie bad, need to get glasses, no offense.
fantastic absolute cracker it has live up to my all expectations well done farah and srk n definately dipika she is my dream girl very goog movie must see it thanks
Good Movie
