By Bollywood Hungama News Network, November 19, 2009
Abbas, Mustan Lady Katrina seems to be on a roll and there seems to be no stopping her! After pairing successfully with Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, she has now been signed for yet another biggie.
Abbas-Mustan has finished casting the main leads for the much talked about action thriller which will be the remake of Italian Job. The director duo has cast Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Katrina Kaif for this film.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Abbas (of Abbas-Mustan jodi) confirmed the news saying, "We have just signed the trio of Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Katrina Kaif, for the remake of The Italian Job, whose rights we have acquired from Paramount Pictures. As you know, The Italian Job was a cult film in Hollywood. In the remake, we will maintain that cult factor, except that we will add the Indian element. However, the rest of the cast is yet to be finalized."
The film will be produced by Studio 18.

We don't know if Katrina will be doing the same exact role as Charlize essayed a few years back. Per Abbas this movie won't be an utter remake of the Italian Job. He said they would maintain the cult factor of the movie but add an Indian element and treatment which will have to be done for it to appeal to Indian audience. The Italian Job has been made twice in Hollywood. If written well or even decently this movie should be entertaining.

What do they mean by Indian element? Random dancing down the street. Urgh, they can't ruin this movie.
The Italian Job was a great movie(both Hollywood versions). But its not Gone With The Wind, On the Waterfront, or any other classic movie of years gone by. So not sure why there are premature cries about this movie being ruined. It takes a lot more than adding songs and dance to Indianised movies. By Indian element being added to this movie means that Abbas-Mustan will change up the screenplay, situations, locations, characters, etc in order to Indianise it to make it appealing to the Indian audience.

But a movie doesn't have to be a classic to justify our reaction to it, anything you love, you don't want ruined, simple :D
I think they will keep the angle of the daughter avenging her father's death, it's emotional, it'll pull in the audience moreso the family. So with that in mind, the movie will have one lead actress. Katrina is signed. And look at that Katrina is our lead girl. Cannot picture her pull off such a strong, kick ass role.
And Abbas Mustan lost their magic with Race and Naqaab so yah not getting a good feel 'bout this.

Two to tango
Katrina, Priyanka will get the (Italian) job done
Abbas Mustan’s desi version of the 2003 heist caper The Italian Job just got bigger. The Indian version has two female pivotal parts as against just one in the original. According to reliable sources, the ladies who will step into the parts are Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra.
The cast already has Abhishek Bachchan and Neil Nitin Mukesh, while Akshaye Khanna and Kunal Kapoor are being brought in to play the other male leads. Rohit Jugraj, who’s writing the screenplay for the yet untitled film, says he has improvised on the original. “Though the producers, TV 18, and Abbas Mustan have bought the remake rights, we’ve changed the Hindi version of The Italian Job considerably. For one, the stakes for the heist are much higher. The situations, fights and adventures are all different - and so are the characters.”
A former Ram Gopal Varma associate who directed James and Superstar, Jugraj admitted that the desi version does have two major female characters. “The original only has Charlize Theron’s character. We’ve written in two female parts. As for Priyanka and Katrina playing the roles, right now I’m not authorised to confirm the cast.”
But reliable sources insist the two divas are indeed on board. When contacted, all Abbas (of Abbas Mustan) was willing to say was, “There are a lot of changes in the script. But in spirit our The Italian Job will remain the same. So far, we’ve not locked in the entire cast. But we’re definitely in serious talks with all the names (Katrina, Priyanka) you’ve mentioned. It’s a very big project and we need to get the biggest names in place before we start.”
The film, which will also be shot in Russia and England, goes on the floors in mid-2010.

'Abhishek not responsible for Priyanka's ouster'
Director duo Abbas Mustan clarifies
There were widespread media reports about Priyanka Chopra losing out on her role in Abbas Mustan's remake of The Italian Job, because of Abhishek Bachchan.
The reports claimed, Abhishek was unhappy by the way his good friend and filmmaker Rohan Sippy was left in a lurch by Priyanka Chopra. She apparently did not want to star in his film, opposite a lesser known actor - south star Rana Daggubati.
While all these reports were claimed to be generated through sources, we spoke to Abbas Mustan who sounded very upset about the whole thing and the manner in which Abhishek's name was unnecessarily dragged into it.
Abbas told us, "The star cast of Italian Job was finalised a long time back – we had signed Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Katrina Kaif in the first go and Katrina was always our first choice so there was no question of talking to Priyanka Chopra. She was never approached or spoken to for this role, so how can Priyanka lose out on a role she was never even considered for?"
Abbas further added that it is extremely unfair to needlessly drag Abhishek Bachchan name into it to make it sound like a controversy.
