Not very surprised that the album is getting mixed reviews:
Milliblog's Review

All izz well is no doubt funky and does a 2.0 version of Anu Malik’s pet sound (dhumpachikitha anyone?), but this one-hook-trick can only go so far. Zoobi doobi with its faux-retro-filmy sound is almost pedestrian with extraordinarily predictable sounds, while Shaan’s evocatively penned Behti hawa is perhaps the best this soundtrack has to offer. Give me some sunshine’s thought-provoking dialogs do little to salvage what is a standard, often poorly-sung track. Jaane nahin’s louder portion is the WTF musical equivalent of Parineeta’s Thodo Shekhar – Sonu significantly overdoing the feel! Shantanu does what he usually does, mindless of Aamir’ish expectations!
3 idiots: Short and sweet soundtrack

In almost every second soundtrack, romance is the running theme of the songs. Not 3 Idiots. In fact the only time Moitra makes a gooey exception, it's for the 1960s-flavoured rain ditty, Zoobi doobi. Nigam and Shreya Ghosal [ Images ] tic tac to the semi-rock and roll beats of Moitra's upbeat, whimsical creation. It's catchy, alright. Moreover, the prospect of watching Aamir and Kareena jive to its beats reads like bonus. This one comes in a fast-paced remixed avatar too.
Like I earlier mentioned, 3 Idiots isn't for the ready-steady-go listener. But if you pay this short 'n' sweet soundtrack some extra bit of attention, its curious tunes are bound to grow on you.

Aamir Khan has done it again, after last year’s god-awful Ghajini soundtrack, here’s this year’s turkey soundtrack for his ‘most awaited’ film of the year. 3 Idiots is meant for those geeks/nerds/dorks who will hail this soundtrack as the Chetan Bhagat of music. Shantanu Moitra, you surely don’t want to sail in his boat.

Verdict: 3 Idiots is not going to be an instant chartbuster like Ghajini. But like Rang De Basanti, if the movie clicks, the tracks will justify their meaning. The quantity of sales is a different matter. For now the team deserves praise for keeping the quality high.

Aal Izz Well' guys for its 'Zoobie Doobie' time. Director Raju Hirani, music composer Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire in the first part of a bollywoodhungama.com exclusive with Faridoon Shahryar, take you through the five spectacular numbers of their super-awaited film '3 Idiots'. So, what makes 'Aal Izz Well' a chicken-n-egg tale, why 'Zoobie Doobie' is a take on old Hindi film songs, why 'Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh' can be adjudged as the 'Funeral Song' of Aamir Khan, what makes 'Jane Nahin Denge' one of the best songs sung by Sonu Nigam and how one finds hope n happiness through 'Give Me Some Sunshine'.

...On the whole, the album is a good mix of slow and fast-paced songs. Shantanu Moitra has scored quality music that has melody and generates lots of interest.

Summing up the album, it's another classy outing by the team with outstanding compositions in the form of "All Izz Well" and "Zoobi Doobi". The popularity of the rest of the numbers will once again depend upon the quotient of success of the film. What must be added here is that one expected a lot from the album, especially because it has Aamir Khan as the lead actor, but it is certainly a touch disappointing (taking nothing away from the hard work done by all involved), if we keep in mind and compare the outstanding scores in Aamir Khan campus/youth based movies like DIL CHAHTA HAI and RANG DE BASANTI, which were not only classy but also appealed to the city segments of the mass.
