Paa Review
I've been watching very crappy films lately. I am sure you all loved reading my movie reviews for Blue, Kurbaan, Do Knot Disturb, Love Aaj Kal and other stupid movies I watch. So after a long time I am actually going to write a proper review...thats not sarcastic....Or intended to be a joke. I have seriously LIKED a movie, after a very long time.
Im just going to start by saying that I loved the story! Its a very unique story and for the first time we all can RIGHTFULLY say that we haven't seen something like this before. Not once during this movie did I say "I knew that was going to happen" or "i've seen this before. Awesome story! Well directed and well put together. The pace of the movie was excellent. Not too melodramatic. The music was not a masterpiece but it gelled really well into the story! The movie didn't drag on. Basically good editing, there was not ONE scene that I would take way. I liked how the Vidya-Abhishek love story didnt take 1 hour.
I loved how apart from showing a rare medical condition like Progeria this film also sent MANY good messages! Like using a condom for safe sex, They sent a good message from a political stance and from a citizen's stance! A good message from a parenting end. A good lesson from a school perspective, I liked how they didnt show Auro being bullied in school or making him a victim, this showed that we should accept peopel for who they are! I liked the message they sent on separated parents affect children and how loving your parents is important to children!!!
Big ups to R Balki because he incorporated ALL of above messages in this movie, and that too without us feeling overwhelmed or without the movie feeling crowded. Doing this is seriously a BIG achievement!!!!!!
There is one just complaint about the movie and that is in regards to the performances. I liked the acting of all Amitabh, Abhishek and Vidya. But I felt the movie needed to give each of these characters an intense scene. What I am trying to say is.....Think of your favorite acting roles......I'm going to use one example...Karisma Kapoor from Fiza, she acted really well....But what stays with me from Fiza is that scene where she locks herself in the room and screams for her mothers death......Or in HDDCS where Aishwarya goes berserk telling her mother she loves Salman....
I am not saying anybody should have been as dramatic as Fiza or Ash in HDDCS....But I feel like none of the characters in Paa have that ONE scene that stays with you.
I would have loved to see a scene where Auro broke down, I would have loved to see an intense argument between Vidya and Abhishek! This movie was not melodramtic but it NEEDED a bit of drama! Having these moments would make this movie perfect.
But even with that said. Amitabh again proves why he is a living legend and no award is great enough for him!!! When he did Black I thought to myself that he wouldn't be able do top that! and then just 4 years later he comes with a performance that was possibly even better!!! I dont even know what to say abut him except WOW!
Its funny Vidya is getting nominations and awards because I feel Abhishek acted JUST as good as her! I really felt this was a great performance. Its not comparable to Guru or Yuva...But its still pretty good.
Vidya was good as well! I hope this movie gets her stronger roles! Vidya is a VERY underrated actress! She is as good as some of the senior actresses that we have. She's been awesome since Parineeta!
But becasue of my argument above, I felt Vidya and Abhishek's performance could have been better if their characters had more intense defining moments.
But still, easily the best movie of 2009!!!
