Storyboards from Martin Scorsese’s ‘Shutter Island’
Can Martin and a cast of plenty pull this one off?
BY: Brad Brevet | March 12th 2009 at 1:27 AM
I was actually just talking to a couple of Seattle critics about Martin Scorsese’s October release Shutter Island and telling them NOT to read the Dennis Lehane novel it is based on for fear of ruining the story. I already read the book and have my concerns as to how they are going to pull it off and hope it doesn’t ruin the film for me as well.
The film stars a fleet of big names including Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer and Jackie Earle Haley in a story in which Ruffalo will play U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule, who travels with his new partner Teddy (DiCaprio) to the eponymous Massachusetts island in 1954. As they investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, they encounter a web of lies, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.
Don’t worry, that little synopsis gives nothing away and neither do the storyboards posted by artist Karl Shelfelman on his official site.
Pictured below are 11 boards used for the production. Shelfelman did boards and concept illustrations for such films as American Gangster for Ridley Scott and The Departed for Scorese. You can check out more of his work right here including larger looks at each board featured below

Thats good, better :D
and the thing is, if someone loved the book then that person's expections from the movie goes high so even if the movie turns out good that person will say it's bad comparing with the book :P just like for Da vinci code..
i havent read the book and i liked it alot. and let just say out of 100 % like over 70 % ppl who disliked the movie are DVC book fans.

'Shutter Island' looks like an Oscar-worthy thriller
July 8, 6:48 PM
You know when you hear someone say “you can never leave this island” that you are in for a good horror movie. But this one is set to be more than just a good scare. With big names behind it like director Martin Scorsese, and stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, and Jackie Earle Haley, this one will be a thriller not to be missed!
Industry rumor is already spreading that with this performance DiCaprio may finally get the Oscar he deserves. And the movie itself could be up for several Oscars, too. It’s said to be one of the best Oscar worthy movies this year and first look preview look incredible, with performances by DiCaprio and Kingsley especially good.
The story is about two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
The movie is set to hit screens on October 2, 2009 and is sure to spark a few nightmares. What a great Halloween treat.
