Weakness in Brown's Case -- Prior Attacks

Chris Brown may have gotten lucky, because the charged he was booked on is kinda weak, law enforcement sources tell TMZ. But he's still in big trouble, and Rihanna says it's not the first time he's attacked her.

Sources say the Los Angeles County District Attorney kicked the case back to the police for further investigation because evidence that he made criminal threats against Rihanna is kind of thin. Our sources are quick to say he will, however, almost certainly be charged with felony domestic battery, a lesser offense but still serious.

Here's how it went down according to the police report. After Chris received a text message from a woman who wrote about getting together, an argument erupted. By the way, initially, Rihanna would not tell cops what started the argument.

She did, however, tell them that during the argument he started hitting her. According to the police report, she ordered him to drive her home and "faked a call" to someone, saying things like "He's dropping me off. Make sure the cops are there."

Rihanna told cops the fake call enraged Brown. He said something to the effect of "You are really fu**ed up now. I'm going to kill you." This statement is the basis of the criminal threats charge.

At that point, according to the report, Brown allegedly began a violent attack with his fists. At some point Rihanna took the keys out of the ignition and threw them outside.

And there's this. According to the police report, she told cops this was not the first time Brown hit her. She referred to it as an ongoing and escalating abusive relationship.

We're told the criminal threats charge is based on that one statement Brown allegedly made. As one law enforcement source told us, "It's kinda weak, and the D.A. is not going to prosecute a high profile case like this unless it's solid." That's why it was kicked back for further investigation.

Given the brutal nature of the attack, which the photos clearly show -- contusions on the face, swollen eyes, cut lip, bloody nose, bite marks on fingers and arm -- a felony domestic battery charge is virtually a done deal. That, however, is a less serious offense than making criminal threats.

Chris Brown, who has not been seen publicly since allegedly assaulting girlfriend Rhianna, is a “good kid” who “feels very bad” about what has happened, his friend and stylist tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“Chris is all right. He’s a good kid. He feels very bad that something like this has happened,” his longtime wardrobe stylist Mike B. tells PEOPLE.

Another friend echoes that sentiment, telling PEOPLE, “You can tell everybody that Chris really feels bad about the whole situation, about it coming out the way that it happened, the way he went about it, the way she went about it … it’s just a wack situation.”

As for what really happened, the friend says the story is “not as bad as everybody is trying to gas it up to be.”

After the alleged altercation between the pair on Sunday, Brown was booked on a felony criminal threat charge. A police source with knowledge of the case says Rihanna suffered a black eye as well as a split lip and contusions on her face.

Asked if Brown, 19, and Rihann, 20, have spoken since the incident, the friend says, “I can’t say. Maybe they don’t want anybody to know whether they’ve spoken or not. You have to wait for Chris to say something.”

Meanwhile, Brown’s older sister Lytell “Tootie” Bundy is saying that the alleged incident was totally out of character for Brown. “He’s always been a good boy,” Bundy tells Extra. “He’s coping … He’s doing as … as to be expected.”

Stylist Mike B. encourages fans to keep Brown and Rihanna in their thoughts. “They’re both blessed and we just got to send them our prayers.”

Brown’s Sister: He’s Never Been Violent
Only “Extra” spoke with Chris Brown’s sister, Lytrell Bundy (aka Tootie), about the singer’s alleged altercation with Rihanna — and Tootie revealed Brown has never been prone to aggression.

“He’s always been a good boy — never violent,” Tootie tells “Extra” of her brother. When asked about how Chris is dealing with his arrest and the fallout, Tootie confesses, “He’s doing good. He’s coping… He’s doing as… as to be expected.”

When asked about the siblings’ childhood together, Tootie says, “It was a normal sister and brother relationship. Nothing different, nothing strange.”

Chris Brown ‘Had Been Drinking Heavily’



Chris Brown had been “drinking heavily” before allegedly assaulting girlfriend Rihanna, it has been claimed.

The 19-year-old star handed himself in to police after officers responded to a phone call at around 12.30am on Sunday morning from an unnamed woman - believed to be Rihanna - who accused him of hurting her.

The Umbrella hitmaker - who was taken by Officers on Sunday to the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment - reportedly suffered two “huge contusions” on both sides of her forehead, a bloody lip and bloody nose. (Rihanna’s Grandmother Speaks Out)

And sources tell the National Enquirer magazine that booze is to blame for the alleged altercation - even though Chris, 19, is underage.

“Chris and Rihanna seemed happy at the party, but he was drinking a bunch of wine,” said a source.

It has also been claimed that Brown’s flirting with other woman during Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party caused controversy between himself and Rihanna.

“Chris is very touchy-feely with women, and he always says he doesn’t mean anything by it, but Rihanna automatically thinks something is going on,” revealed an industry insider.

“There is a pretty female guitarist that she’s very jealous of, and I’m sure she played into their altercation. Chris had been drinking and he went off - way off.”

Other reports suggest the row started when Brown got a text from a mystery woman.

“He got a booty call. He got a text. Rihanna saw it and she got upset,” a source told the New York Daily News.

“They started to argue. She got out of the car. He wanted her to get back in, so he grabbed her. She pulled away. That’s when she’s told people he hit her.”

Meanwhile, it has been claimed Brown has a history of “knocking” Rihanna around.

“Chris knocked her around,” an insider told People magazine. “Black eye, blood, bruises. She had to be treated by a doctor.”

The police have said that the Domestic abuse charges are true but that is all they can reveal.

honestly, why do pictures of rihanna's beaten up face or pics of chris abusing her have to be the only proof? he did it. there have been POLICE REPORTS! why would they lie about that? chris was dropped from TWO of his ad campaigns... i guess they dropped him just cuz the media wanted to publish false stories, cuz those companies are really that stupid? plus, he hasn't been in public since then and neither has rihanna. want more? how about he WAS in jail and is now out on bail! his lawyer is the dude who represented michael jackson and scott peterson. we all know what happened with them

honesltly, do these reports mean nothing or are we only to believe something if there was paparazzi around to take pictures :rolleyes:

chris brown is an ass and i dont care what they say about rihanna giving him herpes. i dont care if she did. there was NO reason for him to abuse her as badly as the reports have stated. nevertheless, i doubt his career is over. i think idiotic people will still find a way to love him despite all his flaws


EDIT: for those talking about his abusive childhood... i dont care how bad it was. he should be seeing a shrink. that's not an excuse to beat up your girlfriend.
