Summit announces 'Twilight' sequel
Massive opening prompts 'New Moon' confirmation

By DAVE MCNARY

Fresh from a massive opening day for Summit Entertainment has officially greenlit a "New Moon" sequel.
Summit made the widely expected announcement Saturday morning. "Twilight" generated first-day grosses of $35.7 million from 3,419 playdates on Friday -- including $7 million from Thursday midnight shows.

The vampire thriller's a ready-made franchise for Summit with four books in Stephenie Meyer's series, which have sold more than 17 million copies worldwide.

"New Moon" is the second title in the series and is centered on Edward Cullen leaving Bella Swan in order to keep her safe from other vampires. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart play the leads in the film.

"I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment," Meyer said in a statement.

"Twilight" had been expected to open in the $50 million to $60 million range, although it looks likely to end up above that.

Hmm not a fan of the American Pie series but saw About A Boy long time back, it was a good movie. Anyone see Golden Compass?

Golden compass is BEAUTIFUL!
I hate the american pie series as well but it's a totally different style so no chance of this style spreading on Full Moon I guess...

New Moon
I think a tinsy winsy bit of American Pie-ness wouldn't be that bad :lookaround:

But yah I'm glad he's a good director, more on the commercial side, just what this movie needs.

If we could just get a new screenplay writer I would be much happier!! I saw Golden Compass and it was not the book...it was good, very good but not the book so we will see! About a Boy was brilliant and he got so much out of Hugh Grant that I am looking forward to what he can get out of Rob. Maybe he can direct the actors more than the actors directing him...I think that was part of the problem on Twilight well apart from the horrible screenplay.... How long do we have to wait????

u'r serious??? :dontgetit:

And stace of course it's not the book and a movie will never be a book, we should never expect a movie to be as good as a book... it's never been.
We can just expect the director to do something great and worth watching out of it! Regarding "NEW MOON" :P I mostly have expectations about the special effects and Jacob cause I know kristen is not gonna portray a good tortured, depressed bella unfortunately :noshake:
