^^When you become a celebrity, it is not about YOU anymore; you become part of the public eye.
She even said that she was placed on an "unrealistic pedestal", and I do agree. However, when you become a celebrity, you have higher expectations because you appeal to a mass public. People look up to you as role models, and your power & influence are dominating factors. I think we definitely do put a lot of importance on celebrities, and yes, they are human beings just like us. However, as mentioned above, their influence is just too striking too ignore.
She even stated that she was blinded by love, and when she looked at the situation as a 3rd person, she realized she needed to step away. Above all, her "wake-up call" was when she found out that young teens had written to her stating that they have been victims of abuse.
She realized what an impact she had on young girls, and that is the underlining point. She is a prominent figure who people look up to, and unfortunately she can't have that needed privacy.
People were OUTRAGED (even her own fans, if you read messages on her fansite) that she went back to him at the beginning of March. Even celebrities like Oprah voiced her opinion that he would hit her again. Domestic abuse is a very serious issue, and the majority of the cases are unheard. By Rihanna voicing her opinion that she needed to step back from the situation, it's providing a powerful voice to those who are victims of any kind of abuse, be it physical or verbal.
ETA: Oh you don't need to mention it Kiki. It's just a discussion. :)
