''I chose Ranbir because I see that special spark in him'' - Raj Kumar Santoshi
By Subhash K. Jha, March 3, 2008 - 16:36 IST
For now it's goodbye Ajay Devgan, hello Ranbir Kapoor for Raj Kumar Santoshi. Post the unexpected debacle of Halla Bol producers are no longer eager for more from the Devgan-Santoshi pair.
Apparently PVR the producers who were supposed to support Santoshi's multi-crore historical on the life of Emperor Ashok have backed out of the project. Santoshi who has been long toying with the idea of making a love story has now signed Bollywood's new sensation Ranbir for a film. And he has decided to cast Katrina Kaif in the female lead. He starts the project immediately. Confirming this new development in his career Raj Kumar Santoshi says, "Yes I'm making this film, Ranbir is confirmed. Katrina is nearly confirmed. I wanted to work with Ranbir the minute I saw him in Saawariya. I see that special spark in him. In fact after I saw him in Saawariya I sent him a bouquet, I was so impressed by him."
The film is to be produced by Tips with whom Santoshi had a long-standing tiff regarding outstanding payments for The Legend Of Bhagat Singh. Santoshi denies any differences with Tips. "We had a very fruitful working relationship during The…Bhagat Singh. If we didn't why would we be working together again?" Santoshi is specially excited about this project because it's a love story that he's writing himself. "For very long now I wanted to make a pure love story. I've written this script some time back. I was waiting for the right face. I think Ranbir was destined to be the hero in my love story."
Interestingly two years ago Santoshi was supposed to make a film called Ranbir with Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO a love story with RK and Kat, how perfect is that

Oh fantastic! I read about this a few days ago so I am glad to see the news formailsed! Although still am sad about Devgan and Santoshi pair dismantelling. They have made some good movies. But I guess after a long time Rajkumar Santoshi will explore a new style of cinema with this movie. :D

And now you’re doing another film with Katrina!
Yes. She was already part of Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film when it came to me. It’s a lovely romantic comedy. I’m looking forward to working with Mr Santoshi who’s one of my favourite directors. He’s definitely one of the master storytellers of our times. He’s worked with my father in Damini. And now it’s my turn.

Ranbir-Katrina in Santoshi's next
By Subhash K. Jha, March 7, 2008 - 12:25 IST
At a time when most filmmakers from Farah Khan (Om Shanti Om) to Siddharth Anand (Bachna Ae Haseenon) are naming their films after evergreen songs, it's refreshing to come across a filmmaker who doesn't hesitate in pushing the envelope. Rajkumar Santoshi has always chosen rather apt and succinct titles for his films so far….like Ghayal, Ghatak, Damini and Halla Bol.
But the title of his latest film is just so zany it makes you chuckle and keeps you intrigued even before the film goes on the floors. The film is called Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Prem was what Salman Khan was named in Raj Santoshi's only comedy Andaz Apna Apna Apna .Now it's Ranbir's turn in Santoshi's first-ever love story which coincidentally stars Salman's love interest, Katrina Kaif.
Salman and Ranbir bond big-time. In fact, when Ranbir was shooting the towel song in Saawariya, Salman had come on the sets to oversee Ranbir's abs-and-bare-torso although Salman wasn't required that day.
